I've never seen a short neck with asymmetric  holes. Odd. Anyway, to clarify, I had 4 ear flange welded to front of shaft with 3 ears on rear to match long neck diff.

It would look like the NOS short necks on WN are drilled for either symmetric or assymetric

@02tom I going through the same swap! I had both differentials

- early with 3 bolt centering pin snout flange and 6 hole symetrical flanges

- later with 4 bolt flange and 6 asymetrical output flanges.

Took 2 minutes to remove the output flanges and interchange. It’ll be easy for a machine shop to drill and match them to the axles.

Still need an input flange to see if their splines are the same and will cut the snout

Really want to use the early 4:11 but will wait until I find another diff to swap more parts in between. The 3:64 might be too tall with the 245 5 speed! Will report back!

I have to have a custom drive shaft made up for mine anyway, so I'll probably just use the final drive that I have.  I had preferred to use a 4 bolt input for ease of having drive shafts made in the future, but am thinking this can be someone else's problem for another time as long as I can get the car moving again.  The 4 bolt drive shafts are so common and compared lengthwise - I think the e28 5 series was very close in overall length except for the center bear placement was not ideal for the NK sedan.  I'm probably going to use the asymmetrical output shafts and just put new boots on the CV joints unless I find something wrong with them.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
