"The fuel gauge is not accurate according to the seller, though the remaining gauges in the original VDO instrument cluster are functional."

Keep an eye on the brake fluid level, the cap sensor is missing.

Is that brake fluid spewed on the inner sidewall of that tire?

The braided brake lines are missing.

As is the rubber brake line grommet,

nitti-nitti-nit-pick.

"The brake calipers were also rebuilt, and new rotors, steel braided brake lines, and a brake booster were installed."

They must be referring to the rear flex lines...

     DISCLAIMER

I now disagree with some of the timing advice I have given in the past.  I misinterpreted the distributor curves in the Blue Book.

I've switched from using ported-vacuum to manifold, with better results.

I apologize for spreading misinformation.

Is there also  no washer at the front draglink at the subframe?

And what's up with that big-arse nut there?

How's your M3?

Ugh oh. I just noticed the lack of big cupped washers on the tie bar (control arm link/strut to subframe).  I need to add safety wire to the 69 strut bolts so I should not criticize others (too much).

Strut Bolt Failure 1.jpg

You are 100% correct Mike. The wire I bought and used on the 73 is too thick, so I will buy thinner wire promptly for the 69.  I did install new bolts and used some Loctite (I always check them for tightness due to these kind of instances).

Not necessarily directed at you Jim, I fuss at everyone on this subject   Pet peeve of mine   So easy and simple to do, yet so many don't    Folks at Mid America will feel my wrath as usual   They will stop letting me come one day

No worries Mike. It needed to be done before Vintage.  0.032" stainless wire just ordered from Amazon- will be here Tuesday.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
