Ok. I Have An Idea, How to Feed the '02 Need

Recommended Posts

As my project '02 is (finally) winding down, I realize that I have accumulated a substantial amount of knowledge and tools for the project.

With that I exploring the idea of part/assembly refurbishment for those who don't have the time/tools/patience for getting items cleaned, repaired, prepped, painted.  Where they can send it their items and in a few weeks, have them refurbished to their instructions.

I have done almost all the difficult projects (heater box rebuild, pedal box rebuild just to name a few) as well as trailer arm conversion.

Just something to help feed my addiction and keep me out of trouble.

As with any entrepreneurial idea, it needs to be bullet proof. So what are your thoughts?

I would say it would be very helpful for us less mechanically inclined.

After having some friends do some online business.

There are some  issues with any business of this sort. Although most people will be happy:

Some people don't pay you.

Some people want you to work for free..(It worked before you got it, now you need to fix it on your dime).

Some people will never be happy with their results.

Some people will claim you broke their stuff.

Get an account with Fedex so shipping will be easier. (You will be able to give better shipping cost estimates)

A list of the services you offer with prices will help.

Loose: Not tightly bound. Subject to motion.
Lose: What happens when you are spell check dependent.

All good points, some solution:

Some people don't pay you. Unless I have done business before with them or contributors to the FAQ, half up front, half at delivery

Some people want you to work for free..(It worked before you got it, now you need to fix it on your dime). Then no deal

Some people will never be happy with their results. A detailed schedule of work (SOW), plus progress pics

Some people will claim you broke their stuff. A detailed assessment to be sent by me.

i have been servicing 2002's as a business since 1989.

years ago the cars were so plentiful that i was busy 7 days

a week and always had a back log. now that the newest

car is 41 years old the work is not so often and mostly long

term work. i do not have problems with people paying and

in most cases the cars are pleasure cars not daily drivers.

i have two DD's left. this has slowly turned into a specialty

situation, not a service business. as a hobby it would most

likely be the best way to look at it. i also have a day job that

i can retire from in 3.5 years with 35 years and full retirement.

that is when i am looking forward to rebuilding cars full time.
