Removing console

So from a lot of the posts I have read they are talking about removing the shifter from under the car. Is there a way to get off this bar easily so I can remove my console in one piece. I see there is something on the inside of the rod but have no idea what tool would be used if that's even how it's taken off. Thanks

There is a retaining clip underneath the flared part of the "rod".  Not sure you can even remove the clip with the shifter assembly attached to the car.  Even if you could remove this "rod", the shifter itself comes up more than haft way up the inside of this "rod".  So, part of the rod will still be in the way of the console.

I have a short console '69 and have never had trouble removing the console without messing with the shifter. I usually pop the shift boot off its rim, put the lever in 2nd or 4th, then gently pull up on the trailing edge of the console, and it'll clear the rim easily.

Presume you removed the screw that holds the console floor in place.  It's under the speaker housing on yours.  And in fact, the speaker housing may be what's keeping your console from flexing just enough to remove it.  Remove the two screws on each side holding the speaker housing in place and then try weaseling the console out.
