Thanks everyone for the help. Mike87 if you don't mind, the only thing I could not find is the actual harness that plugs into the distributor. I was going to make individual connectors but if someone has this cable/connector/harness. Also if you know which side is positive and negative or A+/B- because I'm using the smaller Transistor Ignition Control unit with the 7pin plug? for the power supply No. 4 Terminal 15; will that go direct to battery or ignition switch?

Hey guys, I'm going crazy trying to find the part number for this connector in realoem with no luck. I don't want another used one as the wires on the base are usually in pretty bad condition. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi guys, does anybody know if I can use a Bosch distributor from a 1983 E21 320i on my 83' E30? BOTH my current and this other distributors are electronic and turn COUNTER clockwise BUT, they have different part numbers. BOSCH part number of my distributorr is 0237011004. Part number of the other is 0237002049. When I look at REALOEM for my distributor part number: 12111273244 it says it only came in 316 or 318i cars, does this mean it could be incompatible with a distributor that came off a 320i E21 even if they're both electronic and look exactly the same? fc044e7b251f3664bfde3238afd63251.jpgeb89240b24f1de78fab18fc369486689.jpg

I would say you have to do some research to determine if the 83 Motronic controlled spark if so there is no advance curve in the 83 distr.  The E21 may have a curve.

Technology advances all the time, going back and forth over the fence from one evolution to another can be hazardous if it has barbed wire.

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.

I think seeing springs or play may go a ways in determining whether the distributor has an internal curve...?

Stop reading this! Don't you have anything better to do?? :P
Two running things. Two broken things.

Progress update: I installed the coil from an 82 E21 320i, bypassed the 02 ballast resister (connecting both leads to a jumper wire) and the final kicker was the coil wire from the transistor ignition module lead must be connected to the negative side on the coil. I now have spark and it started right up! Finally! Thanks everyone! Now my I need to figure out my Weber 32/36 Carb is drowning my spark plugs. I will have to pull and dry the plugs, start the engine and try tuning the carb so it doesn't continue to flood the plugs. If anyone has recommendation on tuning the carb.

Final recap to swap E30 M10 into 2002 E10 parts needed and connections: (Bosch) Transistor ignition module (Part# 78070005 ebay $13 new), transistor coil from E21 (pick-a-part $9), Module harness with distributor wire (part of the harness) supply'd by Mike (Thank you). Connections using the diagram posted by Mike Bosch Module upper picture: Wire 1 (Black wire) to coil negative side, Wire 2 (Brown wire) ground to body, Wire 3 did not connect at all, Wire 4 (Green Wire) power supply connected to original 02 distributor condenser wire with a fuse, Wires 5&6 are the plug that goes into the distributor. I also grounded the distributor to the body. Final is the ballast resister (white ceramic thing on the coil) make a jumper wire and connect both wires together from the resister. Done!

F.Y.I. I talked to Steve from Top End Performance in North Hollywood today and the best way to do all this is using a MSD Box, Tach adapter and Bosch red coil.  I'll see how my current setup works and if not I'll go MSD setup.

Hello,
You don't happen to have pictures of the transistor module and the way you made connections.
