Non-matching engine affecting a restored tii value?

Folks,

Looking at purchasing a nicely restored roundie tii. Everything's been redone, inka repainted (original colour Verona) with black interior. Engine and injection have been rebuilt but is not the original engine, vin numbers don't match. I am wondering how much an excellent repaintin the non-original colour and a non-vin matching engine affect the overall value of a superbly restored roundie tii.

My humble newbie opinion. This will never be an investment grade vehicle but should keep up with market for a good to better then good condition car - think 7 out of 10.

I've seen Frankenstein cars sell for good money because of the workmanship of the changes. The buyer is happy with those changes and perceives value.

On the other hand, this car your looking at, while it will garner respect and attention at a local car meet, will never be able to be valued like a fresh out of the factory, 1 owner garage queen that goes from auction block to garage to auction block.

Once again- If it's in good running condition, shows well and is not an attempt at an "automotive investment" it should at best hold value that is consistent with current market rate for a "good" to "better then good" condition car.

I was once told that "numbers matching" only matters to at the concurs collectors level.....I tend to agree.

If it came out of the factory as a TII and has not been converted from a carbed car then it won't make much difference compared to high quality restoration work. It is common with probably 75-80% of 40 odd year old cars in not having its original engine.
