3D printed cup holder

We got my son a 3D printer for his birthday, and so got him immediately started on designing and printing components for the car...of course.

 

First project was a custom cup holder. First consideration was where to put it. Didn't like the idea of a dash mounted holder.. worried about unintended dash consequences. Ended up going with between the front seats via the Klippen seat belt holder...

 

 

Went with 3 arms that can flex to accommodate a variety of cup sizes. Designed it so that it fits snuggly and securely in the ring.

 

Added a BMW wheel emblem.... because.... well, just because

 

 

Fits in an unobtrusive spot in the car, although tall plastic bottles do brush against your elbow when shifting. The Klippen base fits securely around the tunnel without screws, so it can be placed/removed easily.

 

 

It was a fun project with son learning CAD and 3D printing do's and don'ts. Already thinking about other stuff.

Nice!  What I want is a dash mounted iPhone holder.  When I had the AC center console I had a vent mount and it worked great...now it sits on the seat and flops around.  Its the source of my audio system so it would be nice if I could just hang it above the center console somehow....

A whole new use for those old Klippen mounts, watch now, they will start to get hard to find and go way up in price Ha Ha    God idea and nice spot for the emblem
