Question about warm up regulator/transmitter

Hi Everyone,

Having had my tii for almost a year now i have the car running well finally... big help was this forum and Chris (stone racing) for coming to my place last summer and helping me and giving me a lot of confidence to tackling issues myself with the tii....

I am in the midst of tracking a bit of a lean condition at high(ish) RPM and found that my WUR cone was a bit shy of 10mm...As I've found every solution on this forum i found one for this also... I let the car warm up then undid the set screw on the side of the cone with an Allen key and corrected it to 10mm... this solved the "extreme" lean conditions but it was still a bit lean...

with the cone extended all the way some carb cleaner would enrich the AFR  and constant spray would stumble the motor... So being me... i adjusted it to 11mm...same result...

So yesterday, i pulled it off the car, cleaned it and put in a boiling water with a hose connected to the breather...

With the cone extended (now to 11mm) i could still blow air out and could see bubble coming from the side of the cone (not just the three slits), I repeated this test with it adjusted to 10mm( still very little air) and 9mm then 8mm (at this point the three slits were inside the slot and i was able to get air in easily). So with it still warm i undid the cone all the way to see if there was any kind of O ring or anything else that seals it when fully extended... there wasn't...

There is an exploded image floating around the forum and it doesn't show anything either....

Finally, my question...

For all the people that have similarly "bench tested" their WUR on their stove tops... how tight was your seal? could you blow any air out, i.e. complete seal?

Secondly, how likely is that one "would" get a complete seal with metal on metal? i even submersed the head in the water to make sure to account for expansion coefficients....

Lastly, (this will also go in the parts wanted) anyone got a spare that has been bench tested they want to sell me? :)

Thanks

Omer

I thought I understood the WUR until I visited Wes Ingram's shop last month.  They rebuilt a KFish pump and WUR for me and Herb Sanborn explained how they performed.

I noticed a rubber seal that Herb replaced in the WUR.  When I asked him where he got it, he showed me a sheet of synthetic rubber that he had cut his own seals from.  IIRC, the seal lives under the piston.

Thanks Paul,

That does help...a lot :) of all my searching (two weeks worth) i have not seen this picture...so i am sure that will help others also...

From the looks of it, it seems to serve the purpose of keeping the hot coolant out of the upper mechanisms rather than help seal air...

but in any case i'll take mine apart tonight and see what's what today and update the thread..i figure it can't get more broken!...disclaimer ...I've said that in the past and "more broken" things
