1976 Solex "Rebuild" is Flooding

I have a 1976 2002 manual with the Solex double barrel carburetor which was having some issues so I "rebuilt" it with a walker kit.

I was keeping track of all the parts, but when I pulled the float out the valve came out too and I can't figure out how it goes back because I didn't expect the valve to fall out.

I put it back together the way I thought it should go (I can't find any pictures or guides indicating how the valve and float get reassembled" but now the carb floods big time.

My guess is the float and valve weren't put back together correctly. Does anyone have a pic on how it's supposed to go back together?

Here's the flooding.

the picture doesn't show how you reassembled the needle valve. Suggest you remove float and show how needle looks.

I know. Sorry the picture is crappy. I wanted to get it together and didn't take a pic of the float needle and spring attached to the float last night. I'll go out and take off the carb to get a better pic. Thanks.

Perhaps the metal clip shouldn't be wedged into the float's "horseshoe". The float's movement seems to be hindered by the float needle, which doesn't move without binding a bit.

I've moved the clip out of the "horseshoe" and the float and float needle move more freely now. But the float needle wants to fall out when inverted. Perhaps the gas in the bowl will keep the needle from coming all the way out of the needle seat. I don't know...c1f6e94f2b191103085deb407017b49f.jpg5b8146a648faa273ed09b17ebc419e05.jpg573f207c9ce19c3f651b68318f182a7e.jpg

Here it is inverted. Notice how far down the float needle goes. 885c41a50a26c9fc3dd7e7723a6cba4d.jpg

Thanks again for all your help guys.

Only have experience with Weber, but I would say you assembled it correctly. Is your float level correct? Are you sure the needle is seating properly? I see some cracks in your float. Are you sure it's functioning properly and is not getting fuel-soaked? If it absorbs too much fuel it will not float, thus it will not push the needle and prevent fuel flow into the bowl.

It doesn't matter how far it droops down when you have it out of the housing. It will only go as far down as the bottom of the float bowl in practice.

Never rebuilt a 36/40 Solex ( most of them went into the neighbor's pool; replaced with a Weber 32/36) but intuition tells me the spring clip goes over the pin between the "towers".  In other words, remove the float from the "towers", rotate the spring clip 90 degrees so it straddles the brass pin and reassemble the float.

The "horseshoe" cut out, is the tab you bend to adjust the float height/ fuel level.

Try that,

I looked at it again... the clip appears to be correct as you've got pictured.  I see a cut out on the one side of the brass float bracket where the clip goes.
