Thanks.

It'd be a shame for me to hack that up just for the bezel. I'll pass for the time being.

Cheers,

I have to ask!  ?

I realize, Ray, that you have long been searching for a grille from which you can cut the headlight door/surround in order to insert that door into a grille with a bad door.  Is your hurtin' grille so nice otherwise that it's worth tacking in a replacement door?  If it's really nice, won't you afterwards want to get it re-anodized to conceal/minimize the cuts and repairs, a $500+ project from the likes of King of Trim?  And, if it's not really nice, why not just use the "donor" grille?

Or....is this one of those personal "missions" some people are on -- not me, of course, why do you ask? -- in which the mere act of saving a worthless piece of crap provides closure or peace to the actor -- not that I have ever engaged in such acts, why do you ask?  ?

How about a photo of this grille that's waiting for a new heart?

Best regards,

Steve

Well, Steve...

I'm glad you asked ;-) :D

It would be a shame to relegate my perfectly serviceable matching-patina grille to the parts bin, and to cannibalize a good replacement grille for my needs.

And I'm certain that someone, out there, somewhere has a trashed grille with a lovely intact bezel which would suit my not-outlandish requirements.

Also, I'm patient :D

And, here's a pic since you asked! Hope you like! :D

The black racing lines are Chassis Saver that I coated the insides of the fenders with. You may recall the fenders were off the car at purchase. Oddly there was no sign of rust on them!

Cheers,

Wait...someone cleanly cut the headlight doors off of BOTH grilles?   Ahh...I pictured a single door dented beyond redemption.  OK.  I get it now....mostly!

Best regards,

Steve

Naw, they're not cut. The spot welds were broken and the bezels removed. I have one -- with no damage.

The other one apparently disappeared in the dozen years the car sat while apart...

... Jim are u ignoring my emails? :D

Cheers,

Ray

This has been my yard for 12 years or so. Just sayin :)

You should be happy that your thread keeps getting bumped to the top.

Have a nice week :)

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
