The DW probably won't be a great choice for the track,

the DW actually is not bad on track.  have used them on both e46 325 and e36 M3 on track (instructor sessions, 9/10's effort)

DWS not a great choice.

I'm blaming autocorrect for this one. I was fighting with it throughout my post on DW vs DWS. I meant to say what though did...

It's a very fun commuter!

I've been unable to heel/toe the SS consistently, but came across a wider pedal option on the SS Forum from SRP Racing. It has a wing on the left side to fill the gap between gas and brake.

http://www.srpracing.com

Drive by wire throttle assy has to come out. This was four plastic trim clips to remove an under dash panel. Then one bolt holds the pedal in place. Unplug the electrical connector and it slides out. On the bench, there are five metal tabs holding the stock pedal cover on.

The SRP pedal is held in place by four screws into the plastic face of the pedal assembly. It comes with self tapping screws but I felt better marking the locations and drilling small pilot holes.

Got the cover mounted to the assembly and reinstalled.

I might have to cut a bit off the lower half of the wing. I could feel it brushing my shoe during braking. I'll leave it as is for a while and decide after I get more time with it as is.

Much easier to roll the side of my foot onto the accelerator while keeping the ball of my foot solidly on the brake pedal. I had to put the ball of my foot half way off the brake pedal to catch the accelerator and I was afraid my foot would slip off the brake.

Since the 2002 is in pieces right now, I took the SS to the track today for an Audi Club event.

IMG_1260.thumb.JPG.b2972bafa390b72c49e32f2104812286.JPG

I was nervous about going to the track with nearly 2x the mass and over 4x the power vs the 2002. I know Pacific Raceways pretty well now, so it didn't take long to get comfortable. A local realtor sponsored a photographer, so there should be some action shots soon to add to this thread.

I had such a good time, I signed up for a 2 day even next month at The Ridge Motorsport Park over on the Peninsula in Shelton. I hope to have the 2002 back by then, but I want to test it locally before committing to a two day event.

How eerie is the rear end of your SS similar to the white A4 next to it.  Move your tag mount upward into the trunklid and squish the taillights and it looks similar to an A4.  Even the bulge in the quarter panel at the bumper looks similar along with the exhaust/valence black section.

The main thing I hate about new sedans is the trunk opening is almost worthless.  Try to put a cardboard box into a new car lately?

I noticed that similarity as well. If I believe what the internet tells me about the chassis being a clone of the e39, then why wouldn't the rest of this car be a derivative design?

the trunk extends a good 3 feet beyond the trunk lid opening. The large cardboard box is a problem, but a trunk full of groceries essentially requires climbing in to get those bags that slid up against the bulkhead. I've never been a fan of cargo nets until this car.

I installed a Roto-Fab intake last weekend. Not sure if it added any power, but it added some nice induction noise.

And these were on my front porch when I got home this evening.

Australian springs for my Australian car shipped from Australia. Eibach is the only game in town domestically and no one seems to like the way they ride or the way the car sits. I'm going to wait until after my next track day to have them installed. Don't want to be changing things just before a track weekend at an unfamiliar location.

Minor update from the weekend. Too much chrome on this car, so decided to start on dechroming the trim.

GM sells them as an accessory. They just pop into place.

I'm going to attempt to wrap the chrome portion of the door handles in black vinyl in the next few weeks. We'll see how that goes..

I'll do the grilles and fog light surrounds eventually as well, but that requires pulling the bumper cover. I'm not quite ready to do that to my new car. These are also GM accessories.

Black window surrounds can be obtained from Australia, but I sort of like them in chrome. We'll see.

I'm undecided on wheels. Powdercoat these or buy something else. Probably need to be black to keep the theme going.

Track photos were just published. Not a lot of great photos, but I guess you get what you pay for.

I really wish wish the third photo was in focus. The 4th and 5th photo aren't bad though.

I like this car a lot. The time on track reinforced my positive opinion. The total package of size, power, comfort, handling, and a reasonable price is hard to beat.

Most practical track ready sedan? I volunteered to do the Costco run for this weekend's track time at The Ridge. 10 cases of water (40-500ml bottles each) plus 200 individually wrapped snacks.

IMG_1298.thumb.JPG.afd730beb88e575ae91b77519adbef87.JPG

Standing in line, I wondered if this would all fit in the car with my tool tub and suitcase.

IMG_1295.thumb.JPG.af5ece97167c5351b6886f941f621013.JPG

It all fit in the trunk leaving the back seat for my other stuff.

Definitely felt the extra 500lbs on the drive down. Rear is a bit low...

Awesome...  Reminds me of the old BMW commercials for the NK TiSa.. There's a couple having coffee and he sees his watch and rushes off to his NK parked on the street.  Opening the trunk to reveal his racing helmet and four, mounted racing tires.  He zooms off to The 'Ring...

Here's a shot of Peter's TiSa.

Good times,

Ed

I haven't heard of that TiSa commercial before. I'll have to see if it's on YouTube. It would take a massive trunk to hold 4 mounted tires for this car. I'm jealous. Like the 2002, I have to do 2 in the trunk, two in the back seat when I take the car in for seasonal tire changes.

The SS performed really well over both days on the track at The Ridge. This was my first time on a track other than Pacific Raceways and my first time at a two day event. Getting two days back to back was a great way to be introduced to an excellent, fun, new track. Will have to make a point of watching for these elsewhere.

I guess I performed well also. I'm told I'll be assigned a "sign off" instructor next time I drive with the Audi Club. On the second day, my assigned instructor had a sign off instructor jump in with me for my 4th session. He was happy with what he saw, but given it was the end of the second day, he wanted to take another look at a different track earlier in the event. I'm in no rush to move up and lose some of the instructor access that goes with my current level, especially since I haven't been on many different tracks, but I guess I better make that sign off count and use it at a new track.

I still prefer the 2002 on the track due to the more manageable size and weight, as well as the much lower operating cost, but it's great to have the experience of driving much more car on track to compliment what I've learnt in the 2002. Hopefully I get the 2002 back mid-September, can street drive it for a couple weeks to ensure all is well, and then get it on track in October. It'll be interesting to get back in it.

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
