Selling my 73' 2002Tii at Cardiff Classics

For anyone interested.

I have listed my 1973 2002Tii for sale at Cardiff Classics in Encinitas California.

http://www.cardiffclassics.com/view-inventory.aspx

The reason for my listing is that I bought another BMW (I have three now) but, it is either the girlfriend or the car.......

Technically it is no longer a Tii since it has dual Weber DCOE 45 carbs.  Top End Performance in North Hollywood worked on the vehicle and it has a Stage II engine build.

Some recent work;

fuel pumps

distributor, plugs, points

Turn signal yoke

New roundie tail lenses

New 71 degree thermostat

Radiator flush and overhaul

I gave total control to Cardiff Classics for negotiation on selling price but if you need specific questions about the vehicle I will gladly assist you.

I really did not want to let this car go but I really needed a vehicle for long road trips rather than rack up miles on such a beautiful classic.

As usual, you never get what you put into the car (and I never expected too) but I have $34k invested in the vehicle.

It is extremely clean, but do not take my word for it, if you go in person... lift up the carpets, check the under carriage and all around the trunk, it is a sweetie.

Thanks - that's a fair price - you should have listed here first!!

How would you describe the drivability with the dual 45s?  I have never driven with them but have heard they are pretty intense for road use.

Also, in terms of selling due to the girlfriend - as far as total cost of ownership goes:

car < girlfriend < wife

Once the carbs were synchronized and tuned I have no problems at all.  They purrr, there is plenty of power, but with the car's setup you really are not fighting the car in any way should you decide to push it hard.

On the street she is a "sleeper" until you decide you want to go.  I do not know about using her on the track but Steve Nelson at Top End told me she is one of the faster 2002s he has put together.

Fuel economy suffers a bit, but who buys these cars to save fuel!

I know, basically I am giving my car away for what I have in it.

This is the reason I need to sell her...... Bought this little honey for road trips.

I do not have any restoration photos, sorry.

Just so you all know I bought this sweet little 2002Tii for 30K three years ago and I put a lot more into it for restoration and repairs.

I would really suggest if you really are interested, go down and look at the vehicle and have them start it up.

Just before taking her down to the lot I had the carbs tuned up by a professional who spent three days getting them synchronized and running sweet.

I cannot say if it is worth it to you, everyone has their own ideas about what they think a proper cost is.  But I can say this, the car runs and handles awesome.

In the end we all have to make our own decisions.  Make them an offer, worst case is they say no.

  • 1 year later...

This popped up on my makemodelsearch a couple days ago...Doesn't look like there are any current pics.  Could be a good deal, but something seems fishy, probably selling it for 10-12k less than he got it for.

I sat in this car when it was at Cardiff Classic, it's beautiful.

FYI, sellers voicemail box is full and isn't returning calls.

Engine bay OCD is a real problem

That is my old car, I owned it for 3 years before selling it at Cardiff Classics.  Why it is only listed at $20k makes no sense to me.

Half the photographs were taken more than two years ago, the ones stamped with Cardiff Classics on them.  One photo appears to be a stock photo and not even the vehicle.

But I suspect the others photos taken next to the industrial looking building are likely to be recent... they are not any of my photos.

The vehicle was in pristine condition when I sold it, Since you sat in the vehicle while it was there you know what a sweetheart she really is.

The person who bought the vehicle from me traded in a replica Porsche speedster and some cash, no idea how much though..

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
