other What Fits? '83 320is to '72 tii

I'm dragging an '83 320is home this weekend for my '72 tii.  It has a salvage title, and a bad motor, but good transmission.  It has the Recaros and the five speed. 

 

What else can be retrofitted?  The LSD? The rear brakes? Anything else?

Yes on the LSD and rear brakes. Plus:

Radiator

Starter (for a spare)

Alternator

Front hubs (to sell)

Sport steering wheel

Sun visors and clips

Seat belts (I think)

• Inside rear view mirror--it's wider than the 02's and won't interfere with the 02's sun visors.  
• the hood and trunk emblems if they're the original raised metal ones
• pushbutton switches can be used to replace the dummy switch on your console to operate driving/fog lights, etc
• windshield wiper relay--it is a 7 terminal relay and can be used to add an intermittent speed to your 72 or later 2002.  If you decide to do that, I have how-to instructions for the project.

The water divider does not have the nipple for the coolant hose that goes to the intake manifold (on the 02).

It is useful, when switching to side draft carburetors.

Driveshaft will have a three point flange you might need for the 5-speed conversion on the '02.

My 74 tii has the following parts from a E21 S car

-Recarro seats

-Sport steering wheel

-5 speed

-LSD

The S car 13x6 BBS/Mahle wheels have an ET18 offset that look good on a 2002. Problem is, offset isn't the greatest and finding decent 13" tires these days is very difficult.

Hi Mike,

 

I have a 1974 2002tii and I am looking to upgrade to intermittent wipers.  I have found the 7 terminal relay on Ebay.  Do I need to find a wiper stalk from a '75 or '76 (unobtainium, it seems) or will one from a 320 work?  If so, do you know the part number?  Could you email me the how-to instructions for the conversion?  Thanks in advance!

You need a wiper stalk that has the intermittent position.  It will be off, intermittent, slow, fast.  Member shermanmartinez probably has one you could purchase.

If you are swapping in the LSD use the rear axles from the 320is. They are a tad longer and will help compensate a little for the narrower LSD case. Keep one 320 CV joint for the inside to connect to the diff and swap in the 02 CV joint for the outer axle.
