1976 Select Classics legacy on BAT

Oh the poor guy who is selling, hope he don't think it's worth the $23+K that he paid SC for.

So many sloppy little things, of which some are seriously wrong about the build. I just did not have the heart to lambaste it on BAT.

Saw this and felt it was not my place to call out SC on that channel - someone else was happy to do so.  A quick google search of the builder should lead any potential buyer to the right information.  I am always torn with how much to opine on BaT - I don't like interfering with sales in which I have no meat in the game.

I have such mixed feelings about BAT, too.  Sometimes the commenting is really valuable, but sometimes it feels like a "who's smarter" session, or a thinly veiled brag session "well the 17 roundie tiis that I have owned for over 50 years..."

I don't have a problem with people that call out sellers for portraying things inaccurately, for example.  I think that is of value to new people to a certain model of car.

I sometimes get the feeling that there is this tendency for people to tear down cars that aren't perfect, or original, and I feel like if every car has to be perfect or original to be worth buying...where do the new people to 02s come from?  Where's the entry point?  I believe Ii's fine to spend your money on a car that is just an old 02 with some warts.  Yes, you don't want to over-spend, or think you're buying something that you aren't, but it's not like an 02 is not worth buying if it has some warts.

Such mixed feelings.  Ugh.  I used to like it a lot before the legions of commenters.

Is that a lightweight driveshaft?   At least the bolts were installed for quick removal (or is it automatic removal)?

I haven't commented on anything FS on BaT since they made you change your password to log in so many times.  I've received the daily e-mails for several years.

"Top notch paint job...including no bubbles or imperfections, including the engine compartment".     IMO, it doesn't look like the engine bay matches the exterior unless something happened since 2011.

BAT's description on this particular car proves that even their editors aren't big into fact-checking.

The quality of this site has really gone downhill over the last year.

I would agree, shouldn't this car have a 215mm clutch and no reference to a 228mm flywheel replacement in the invoice as presented makes me think that BAT either didn't do their homework on this one, or didn't fully explain the discrepancy.  For what it is, not a bad looking car and all the issues can be fixed.  If bought for under $10K, someone outside of CA will be very happy.

@conkitchen  I had never heard of BaT before, but it looks great. I'm thinking of posting my car up there. Can I say that you referred me to the site? I think you get $100 if I do.

YES by All means mention to BAT.

I recently sold a car there and worked with Howard and Paul, also the founder is Randy.

If you need further details-like name and address whatever- you can PM me here.

BAT can be very addicting, beware!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
