Inquiring mind(s) want to know:  is the license plate a PhotoShop ??  AND, what about those rectangular red lights just above bumper level ??

My 1972 2002 has the two rectangular red lights at the exact same location.  They are just reflectors screwed on to the body.

The rear reflectors, just above the bumper, appeared in approximately 1970 and remained through the end of the round taillight era.  The taillights on the square taillight cars incorporated reflectors, obviating the need for separate reflectors.

As to the license plates, I believe that late in the original "blue plate" era, you could obtain vanity plates:  Tom Jones's parents' very early tii, for instance, has authentic blue plate vanity plates.

Thus, I don't believe there was a particular need to Photoshop either of these items.

Steve

It's photoshop-

look, the rear windows are open, and yet it has been manipulated to have a Cali plate.

We all know that NO-ONE in California doesn't have A/C, so tis a fake.

Likewise, the trap. mirror...  on a tii?  Naw, that never happened either....

The owner, Ray, has owned this Tii since new, it's a 73 Malaga.  That is a personalized license plate that was available in the early 70s.  It is bone stock except for an MSD ignition if I remember correctly.  It was featured in Bimmer magazine several years ago as well.  It was repainted early in its life as it had a small rust area on the driver side rear wheel well and when repainted, they reinstalled the original windshield with it's rubber seal and plastic trim piece which still look brand new.

I have the same reflectors. I think they were US only but I obviously know nothing

I will say that I don't think the air intake was ever that glossy even when brand new

Yes, the rear-facing reflectors were a U.S. D.O.T. requirement.

I have some older Roundels showing his and hers tii's but they weren't Malaga. The VIN's were pretty close together if I remember correctly (both had CB antennas).  Breaker-breaker one nine.

Another set set of cool tii's was the Colorado guy (Bryan or Brian perhaps) who had two Ceylon cars built by the Werk Shop. I have the Roundel with them on the cover.

My favorite Malaga 73tii is the one once owned by Sam Smith's parents.  Another benchmark for me (sorry Mr. Danko).

go ahead and flame me - I had a long day a work today while the government had off.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
