My car may be for sale

Stu

Recommended Posts

I am very sad to announce that I am probably going to sell my 2002.  Personal, financial, and health reasons.  I was planning on keeping it until death do us part, but stuff happens.

It is a '76, and I have invested close to $30,000 in the car (excluding my personal labor).  I am a former Porsche mechanic, and did most of the work.  The serious stuff was done by Patrick O'Neil (all suspension work, 5 speed conversion, fine tuning, and lots more).

My intention was to make this car a really, really nice car.  It is not a race car, and I have never driven it that way.  It is essentially mechanically fully restored.  I have driven it every day for the last 4 1/2 years and it has never let me down.  It is very well sorted, no issues.

Send me an e-mail if you are interested.  I am putting together a list of all the work and parts that went into this car, and will send it to you with whatever photos you may want.  The car is at my home in Ballard, and you are welcome to come check it out.

E-mail is spkastner@comcast.net.  Cell is (206) 300-3207.  Thanks, Stu.

if you really, really, really are going to sell, place it on Bring A Trailer, ,,, since there have been some really astronomical prices paid there.

Also, ,,, and you need to know this,,,

a lot of folks I run into that wants to chat about my car and 2002's in general says,,,

"I used to own one and sold it,, and will regret that day for the rest of my life !!" DONT DO IT ! :-)

Thanks!  I know I will regret it, but this is familiar territory for me.  This car is my 5th (I have owned a '71 1600 for 17 years, a '73 2002 Riviera blue, a '75 2002 Atlantik blue, and a '73 2002 Colorado orange.  And, I was the 2nd, 4th, and 6th owner of the 1600.  I bought it from the original owner, then sold it twice and bought it back twice.

I thought that was your car Stu. Unfortunate that you have to sell it, but that's life sometimes. Wish it wasn't so!

I noticed the craigslist post also and assumed it was Stu's car (except the plates :)).  This 2002 is a nice one for sure.  People often wonder how you can spend so much fixing up a little old 2002... Well you can and will.  Its insane how much parts cost for these little cars.  It is also crazy how long it takes to fix up a 2002 to be as nice as the one Stu is selling.  Good luck with the sale.

Thank you very much!  FYI if you are following the sale on e-bay please note that the Lithuanian buyer with zero feedback who bought the car via BIN is a no-pay and my car is still for sale.  E-bay's resolution procedure will take a total of 6 days from time of sale.

Well, new member of the FAQ Ryan Gray of Boise, ID just flew to Seattle and bought my car.  He is on the road, driving home.  Thanks Ryan, enjoy the car!

There's a 67 for sale down in Cali somewhere. Past that, I'll keep my eyes open! Still coming tomorrow?

Not sure my Subaru wants to go.  My preference on a 1600 would be a '71, with modern comforts such as headrests and shoulder belts.

Thanks.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
