Hello all-I just wanted pop in and introduce myself, as I will likely be showing up with questions in the future. This week I purchased a '76 2002 from user jrodd770, who i might add was a pleasure to deal with, very nice chap, straight shooter, etc. It reaffirmed my faith in interest based online forums. And the work he had done on the car looks phenomenal. All in all, I'm thrilled. My old man is getting up there in years, and my 4 year old son LOVES cars, so I'm pretty excited about this project. a '72 golf 2002 was my first car; a gift from my pop after we did TWO cross country tours in it in my adolescence. it bit the dust more than 2 decades ago, but i'm going to get to surprise my dad-and son-with the project next week. It runs great, suspension totally upgraded, and about halfway primed/de-rusted. Excited fellow 2002 owner-RJ

If it's more of a dark metallic red (granatrot), that'd be CharlieG.  Most of the Ohioan 02ers are currently in Kentucky for a weekend trip and ridge run. Find rivertown gear busters on Facebook for local 02 stuff. I'm being lame and staying home.

Hey there.  Did you guy from a local guy recently? Jamie Hayes?

Regardless, welcome!!  I'm in Cincinnati and have lots of parts if you need anything.

Nope, Jason.  This one wasn't one of mine.  Sounds like one of the ones I'd have kept with all the suspension work it's had done.  :-)

Welcome, RJ.  I've been away from here for a LONG time.  Just popped in to learn a bit about rebuilding brake calipers and started perusing the boards.  You'll (hopefully) find this group is full of people like the guy you bought the car from.

In the photo there is somd kind of decal or roundel ornament just behind the rear side windows, Is this a roundel and is this stock?

There was, from the factory, no ornament on the C pillar (just aft of the Hofmeister kink). I cannot tell what has been placed on the Pastelblau (?) car's C pillar -- photo too grainy -- but quite a few owners have placed a roundel in that location, in an attempt to emulate the big coupes.

Regards,

Steve

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
