So I had some free time last night, so I thought I'd watch some '02 videos on the old youtube, and came across this switch on the console (sorry for the bad pics).  It was on a 1972 and was a German video.  I don't ever recall seeing a switch mounted here, perhaps it was owner added?  Fader, fog lights, ejection seat switch??  It looks like it has the newer style knob on it

My guess?  Fader or fog lamps.

 

I guess I haven't added much, although I have actually seen several faders in that area and I plan to install one there!  The only issue I have with interpreting this particular application as a fader is that it has the "official" '02 knob.  Most of the period faders were Blaupunkt or Becker and took a different style of knob, which was not readily replaceable with the BMW knob.  So maybe it's a rear window defroster switch serving fog lamp duty?
