Rough Idea of cost to get a 2002tii sitting for a few years up and running

This is first time that I plan to replace front brake pads on my 02 and was wondering if "protection plates are necessary like the ones on newer cars. Looking at RealOEM parts diagram indicating there is protection plate (item #2), but why quantity of one per car. Your Valuable input appreciated.

Those shims were primarily used to reduce brake squeal by adding a non-harmonic piece between the pad and caliper, squeal is really not a huge problem with the 2002 discs. you'll be fine without them.

I'm looking at a 2002tii that's in pretty good shape (minimal rust, been garaged until lately, etc.) that has been sitting for a few years as the owner bought a newer car to drive on the weekends.  It has just under 100k in miles and the owner said it was driving fine prior to being ignored over the past few years, but it currently doesn't start or drive.  It probably needs a new battery, spark plugs, new fluids, and a mechanic going through the engine and likely new brakes.  Any idea of what a shop would charge for that in the Northeast? Also, any sense of what new Bilstein's would cost?

Thanks!

If it's a tii and it's been sitting for several years - I'd focus on making sure there are ***NO*** contaminants in the fuel system. Thoroughly clean the tank, replace all fuel hoses, filters, screens…. Then look for leaks at the electric pump and top of mechanical injection pump. If that system is fully buttoned up, then move to ignition and cold start electrical circuits.

Things that contaminated fuel can damage on a tii:

$500 electric fuel pump

$2200 worth of fuel injectors

$1200 injection pump rebuild

$200 cold start fuel injector

Now you see why making sure the fuel system is healthy matters.

I'd add a tablespoon of oil to each cylinder and let it sit for a day or so… then gently rotate the engine, with plugs out, a little each day. While the oil is soaking in, attend to the ignition "tune up" parts.

You can download the tii tuning manual, which shows troubleshooting techniques for the cold start system.

Most of the cars I "bring back to life" where I work, have been in storage at least 7-8 years, with several undriven in over 20!, and the whole process of making them drivable and reliable ends up costing our customer $4000-8000 depending on how far the owner wants me to go (water pump? hoses? brakes? suspension? electrical troubleshooting? repairing poor PO fixes, etc…etc…) The cars I've revived range from 2002s to E Types, to MGBs to 1960s/70s Benzes, Austin Healeys. It's usually the same overall routine and approach. I try to be very systematic….and so far it's worked on every car except one - a 2002 with a head gasket failure 16 years before I got to it…water had entered the cylinder and rusted the crankshaft solid, over that period.

Patience and sticking to the plan, is what makes it work.

How many cars can you identify in Paul's shop picture?  The E21 and the pair of 300SLs are easy...and the Camaro on the lift.  But what's the blue car glimpsed through the doorway, and the upside down body shell on the rotisserie?

Where does that number come from?

Mechanical Injectors $1145 x 4 = $4580 from the Stealorship

Maybe as low as $752 x 4 = $3011

Real OEM:

I honestly thought you two were joking, but then I realized you were both serious, and I immediately got sad because the theoretical price of injectors is more than I've paid for many cars.

But on the happier side, I took my injectors apart and toughly cleaned them  as well as replacing the sealing washers and K-Fish o-rings and it's been running fine. My pump and injectors were most likely sitting for years

"thorough cleaning of the tank" should specify (drain, flush, and refill fuel tank)

injectors are rebuildable.

Always have to question a seller's common explanation "it ran fine before i parked it but for some reason never took it out for 2 years" if it ran so great you'd think it would be driven at least once a month....

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
