Front Flush / euro signals

250-300 is chump change, somebody posted a set of Italian 02 turn signals on Ebay recently, they were asking 1K.  I don't think anyone bid on it but that shows you that prices on Euro 02 turn signals are on the rise. I sold a pair of NOS Italian 02 lenses six years ago for $300 and I thought that was high. Maybe I should have held on to them....but I went with regular Euro 02 amber turn signals on my tii after restoration. Amber looks much better on a light color 02, Italian 02 turn signals look much better IMHO on a dark color 02. BTW, I bought my Italian 02 lenses at an automotive flea market in Ludwigshafen Germany in 2004 for a 100 Euros   http://www.veterama.de/en/home

Veterama 2016 is next month in Mannheim and it's good time to go to Germany, dollar is strong against the Euro and Cannstadter Volksfest (2nd biggest beer festival in Germany) in Stuttgart runs until 10 OCT http://cannstatter-volksfest.de/en/volksfest/

Be patient and you can get a decent set on ebay for $175-200. I got a set for $150 a couple months back with a bit of patina. That italian set has been up for a good 6 months or more with no bites, along with quite a few $250+ Euro sets I've seen pop up over and over again like a revolving door.

IIRC someone on the FAQ was considering repro-ing just the lenses, made in such a way that they could be fitted to an existing metal frame with clear RTV or something similar, rather than being heat-molded in.  Did anything come of that?

Sounds like a fairly easy project for someone well-versed in plastics--cast 'em rather than injection mold.

  • 2 weeks later...

I made my own out of a set of US signals i bought for cheap.  Cost me about $40 total.  Are they Euro's?  No but they look better than the US signals.  The only thing I ran into is getting the acrylic lenses in the correct color so I went with smoked grey.  I did a video of the process on my blog....

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
