Reinforcement

So my car is currently on its side with all the welding finished and ready for epoxy primer, etc. It is stripped all the way down to the mostly new bare metal. I was thinking of making 4 reinforced spots for a two post lift. Everything under there looks pretty flimsy. I would hate to crush my new front frame rails. Has anyone done something similar or is this a non issue, Thanks for any input.

Tom my 75 came to me with 2 holes in the floor boards from a misadventure with a 2 post lift so if it's just a matter of adding 4 doublers  if heavy enough and with a large enough foot print i say good idea at this point:D

Yes, on the race cars I weld square tube behind the pinch welds.  The E30 used 1 1/4" square, but I THINK I used 1" for the 2002.

Means you can jam a jack under and hoof, and nothing gets bent or pinched.  Which is good when it starts raining at

15 minutes to the 5 minute mark...

 

Also probably illegal in most racing classes...

 

I'd do that to any street car I had down to a shell, anymore.  Do seal up the inside of the tube.

The square tube along the rockers is the way to go. Perfect jack point and stiffens the chassis.

 

Totally illegal in many racing classes though!   Our SCCA ITS class endurance racing e30 has them....not legal!

 

That said,  I have jacked up my M2 hundreds of times from the front frame rails and the rear subframe.   Zero damage.
