Hi, i was wondering where i can search for the original color of my recently acquired 74. It has a bad respray of red and i intend to bring it back to its original color based on the engine bay and trunk. Ive searched for color charts but i dont see any relevant or similar color which is somewhat like mocha or cappuccino. This is what i see when i open the trunk as close as this color so i ak not also sure if its the original one also.

Thanks

That wasn't a reference to you Jim. I was referring to the guy from about a year ago that was obsessed with Dianas, owning one, their headlights, the difference to the double lights with the plastic grilles etc etc

I thought we might stimulate another burst of that activity.

It made me REALLY not want a Diana.  Ever.  Seriously. ?

If the OP's trunk color is original, it's going to have been a Sienabraun metallic car.  If the OP's trunk color is not original, the car could have originally been any color.

Sienabraun metallic as in the totaled '74 2002A I parted back in the day (my Sahara '67 1600-2 is visible in the background).  Just to clarify: I DID NOT WRECK THIS ONE!

Best regards,

Steve

I already wrote bmwarchive so im just waiting. Could be sienna brown or PO painted it differently prior to the bad respray. Here is the only photo I took of the trunk where evidently brown or bronze is the color pf the shocktowers. Thanks

I agree: it's hard to say if the trunk paint is original or re-sprayed over the last 42 years.  If Archives shows the car to be Sienabraun metallic, however, there are numerous forum threads on the topic of Sienabraun!

I think I spy a beige interior which, if original, further limits the likely original exterior color choices to Sahara, Amazonasgrun, Anthrazitgrau metallic, and...Sienabraun metallic.  Below is the February 1974 color and upholstery brochure, which represents a mid-year update.  It differs from the September 1973 brochure -- which represents the initial color selection for 1974 models -- in that Baikal metallic was replaced by Arktisblau metallic and Turkis metallic was replaced by Anthrazitgrau metallic.

Regards,

Steve

Thanks Steve, my best bet is its Sienna brown as Sahara is too light I guess or PO had a repsray already prior to the red color now. Let's see what bmwarchive says.

LLCoolJQ, this doesn't solve your question but my license plate is the next one after yours.  That's pretty neat.  I'm guessing that your car was sold at BMW Autozentrum in San Rafael and registered by the dealer at the same time as mine.  Enjoy!

Wow Bob that is great to know. However, your plates are in pristine condition as opposed to mine. I will have someone restore this one for sure. I love the blue plates. The Sahara color is now growing on me.

If the inside of your fender in the engine compartment is the same color as your shock towers, then SienaBraun Metallic is most like the original color of your car.  The report from BMW Group Archive will be your definitive answer.

Great color when done right.

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
