BMW 2002 Junkyard in Motor Trend Video

Jim, I agree, this is in the front range somewhere.

The weeds match what we see here. There are numerous CO plates on vehicles, Loveland dealer logos, and that 911 badge on the Chevy police car.  North of denver, with it's flatter terrain, also makes sense.  It's not one of the Denver, Loveland, or Greeley yards open to the public.  Sorry, that's not much to go on.....

They´re still out there somewhere. Here´s a picture of a former junkyard in Germany that I took from Google Maps` satellite view after I´ve been there for the first time:

F...ing unbelievable - and I´ve visited many 02-crazy people here in Germany over the past years with really big part and car collections. Maybe 5 Fords, 10 Opels and 3 NSUs - the rest was old BMWs and about 80% 02s.

While we walked the area the owner told me: "That´s a turbo and this one in the back, too, and here we have another one." Most cars were no longer in good conditions, repainted, modded and else. I didn´t believe and the guy saw my doubts. He told me: "Open up the hoods and look for the VINs." And all the ones he had pointed at before once were real turbos!

Stumbled across a large pile of axles and wondered, why the guy keeps them all. Had a closer look and on each and every of these axles there was an Alpina adjustable sway bar. Except for the toilets (pooh) this was my real 02 paradise.

NK station wagon original prototype (not one of the conversions from Belgium and/or France but the first one presented to the executive board of BMW and rejected for production), unfinished E3 station wagon with 02 touring tailgate by Martini initially meant as a fast ambulance for race tracks, complete injection system for Formula-2-Diametral-16V-engine - f...ing unbelievable as said before.

Sorrowly the owner has died in early 2014 and today the place no longer exists. His son managed to keep some of the most valuable cars and parts in other places after the property owner had refused to continue the rental agreement of his father with him.

Only one thing kept the BMW part of my brain in motion longer than seeing all this rare and interesting stuff crowded in one place: Once a guy from Switzerland, that wanted me to redo some seats for him, told me that his BMW collection contains at least one example of each and every car from BMW´s after-war production up until the early 90s. "Of course, sir" I thought to myself and asked him: "So you have a 507, too, yes?" His answer left me speechless for some minutes: "Only four left, have sold one not long ago." And the guy was NOT joking.

Took me about three or four weeks to fully realize that presumably this particular answer to this particular question (with it being the truth) I will never get again anywhere in this world.

Best regards, Lars.

A little searching and came up with this...  Dacono, CO  If anyone is interested, I looked at the landmarks in the background... did an image search on Colorado water towers and found one similar to what's in the video in Dacono, then I searched equipment rentals and located the yard.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
