Was the NK sedan ever offered in the US

I'm trying to learn about the NK sedans online and every site essentially has the same information as the wiki entry. It doesn't say anywhere how many were sold in the US. Was the car available to purchase in the US or were they imports? Any reference people can point me to would be appreciated. Thanks!

To my recollection I believe the VIN listing shows about 300 actual US cars were sold... Not very many. These would have the quad headlights like the one featured in the car and driver write up on legends for this year.

Hoffman brought 1600s, 1800s and 2000s to his dealer network.  These cars used the standard world-wide VIN.  However, in 1969 only, approximately 1100 2000s were given US/NA unique VINs, half were automatics.  This is the last year they were available here.  There is no way to tell how many were imported as the Hoffman records are long gone.

A while ago a dealer/seller of NKs on eBay claimed that 5000 NK cars were imported to the USA but did not cite the provenance of his statistic.

Me, I'd rather know how many NKs there are currently in North America ...

I wonder if we could create a database with this new software. I'll run it through @steve k. and see what could be done!

Here's a photo taken at my Father's dealership in 1966. He was the distributor for the midwest- MN, IA, ND, SD, WI, and IL, and sold a bunch of NK's out of his dealership in MSP. My brother's first car was a dark blue 1600 NK. We had many fun adventures in that car. I remember him having Ti Lux's in the early 1970's, but they were quickly discontinued in favor of the 02's which were very popular in MN.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
