Would love opinions on my BBS rehab

  1. 1. Just redid one of my BBS wheels. Stripped and polished the lip. Painted the centers charcoal grey. Disassembled the center cap and painted the ring charcoal grey and the center shot with duplicolor "chrome".  Thoughts?  These will be going on my Fjord 02. I thought the standard silver was kinda boring lol. Do you like the Charcoal Grey Centers for my Fjord 02?

    • Yes! Keep The Charcoal Grey.

I did mine the same way, without the chrome center. They look great on my Fjord 02.

Nice work!

My RS wheels came in a very close color combo. I like how well they hide brake dust if you're looking for a functional reason to continue with the grey.

Eventually, I plan to refinish them and might go back to the original gold, but I think fjord with grey wheels would be a solid combo. With Malaga, I think the gold would be a better combo, but I'd lose the brake dust hiding benefit of the grey.

I had a pair of black weaves on the car prior to these wheels and they had black centers. I wasn't a fan as the details of the wheel were lost in such a dark color. They were too nice to refinish so I sold them.

But yeah, agree with John that among the classic colors, you can't go wrong.

I had to pull this from my IG account. I had lost a center cap on this drive. It has since been replaced.

I think it looks much better in person. The gunmetal gray and Fjord go together really well.

I, too, am partial to dark wheels with a polished lip.  Less common in the street.

JRHONE: Are yours polished to a mirror finish? Can't tell from the pictures.  I think the mirror finish makes all the difference.  The wheels gleam.   I had a shop polish my wheels on a lathe to get the mirror finish.

Well they are more polished than raw aluminum but they are not mirror. I am trying to get them there without taking them someplace. I may break down and do that because that's the look I want.

I can't imagine getting that finish by hand, BUT... what about spinning them on the car?  That could work.

Side note: brake dust is actually a good polish.  I wipe my wheels often with just a soft cotton cloth.  The dust is fine enough that it doesn't remove the mirror.  I opted for "no clearcoat" as I didn't want to take the chance of yellowing.

I have seen videos of that on YouTube.  I may give that a shot.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
