Exhaust shop in the area?

I need a new exhaust set up.  I'm leaning towards stock, but would like to talk to some exhaust-specialist shops to see what else is out there.  Any recommendations?

I'm simply having an IE SS system installed by Motorspeed West in Santa Clara tomorrow, as Bill and Ken have been wrenching on Bimmers since the early '70's and are consequently quite knowledgeable and enthusiastic about '02's (between them I think that they have 3 tii's). While they don't do their own fabrication, I feel more confident and comfortable having them install the system than just some random place I might have found online, as they know the model intimately and have installed just about every conceivable exhaust that's been made for '02's. You could give them a call and see if they might know of a place with wicked fabricating skills...408-727-6631 Bill and Ken Clark.

Hmm, interesting.  I use them as my shop too.  They're the ones who told me I needed a new exhaust :).  They advised that I not to go with the IE SS setup because they've seen it crack before.  Did they suggest any other options to you?  I'd be curious to hear about your experience with the IE exhaust.

They did mention that experience w/IE, but I've also heard of enough people on the forum not having any issues, so I decided to take a chance. They recommended the factory exhaust-Eberspacher-but they're not cheap. On my last '02 ('73 tii) I had an aftermarket (but stock replacement) Bosal downtube and resonator installed, and then I went with a Supersprint muffler as I had heard mixed reviews about Ansa's. Ironically, the Supersprint's fwd hanger broke when it was maybe 2 mos old...go figure.

It seems like a good # of people have places fab SS systems up for 5 and change, but I wasn't inspired enough to find a reputable place in the Bay Area to do so. Jaymic and CoupeKing offer sweet SS systems but they are ludicrously expensive.

Perhaps H&B in Berkeley or A1 Imports in San Rafael might know of a respectful place for custom fabbing?

Thanks.  How did you get the IE exhaust?  I thought Ireland was out of stock?

If your experience with their exahust is good, I would probably go that route, instead of trying to find a custom solution.  Can you let me know how the install by Bill/Ken goes for you?

I'm running IE headers and stainless exhaust on my 69' everything seems to fit well except the last S section past the muffler (doesn't quite want to exit in the stock location) and the hanger furthest back is weak, I'll end up beefing it up and cutting the S section down to fit properly. Other than that the kit is really easy to install yourself. Also I've used Babes mufflers in the past and have had good experiences there!

Thanks, that's helpful.  Did you consider any other exhausts?
