13"x7.0" steel "stock" wheel

Anyone ever run this wheel? I think they were custom made in Germany

by taking the center of a stock steel wheel and welding it to a 7.0" rim.

Trying to find pics of a flared car with these wheels -

205's work nicely with this rim.

Currently running Alpina 6.5"x 13" - want something different.

Comments on the look welcomed.

Interesting, Joe,

I've seen lots of steel rims widened -- CMR "Borrani's" are common candidates for widening -- but not yet a set of styled steel OEM rims (e21 OEM in this case).  In the close-up photo also showing the valve stem, it appears you can see one of the new seams in the barrel.  The silver and gold rim obviously started life as a 5 1/2 x 13 e21 rim, manufactured September 1978, and it does appear the extra inch has been added entirely on the outside of the rim.  It's hard to argue with "deep dish" from a good looks perspective!

Since it sounds like you already have flares, I'm guessing fitment won't be an issue.  I'd suspect the look is going to be particularly attractive on a square taillight car -- you don't say what year your car is -- as they'll provide a look that is at once "stock" but somehow cooler due to the extra 1 1/2" of rim width and, especially, the deeper dish.  Neat idea!

Regards,

Steve

Hi Joe,  they are relatively uncommon.  However it is simple enough to do as you point out.  I know of at least three sets, one of which has been serving on a DD for several years.

It would be neat to see on your car.  The grey and black would go nicely.

"paging Dr Danco...paging Dr Danco... you're needed in wheel widening...  paging Dr. Danco..."

That's very funny...

Looks nice. I have a pair like these but 14". Started life as opel rims...  back in a day when 1/4 mile was the thing. Goes well with zender style boxed flares. 235/60-14 MH racemasters was used. Other set was done out of E30 steelies.

If anybody wants to buy my 13"x8" steel Diamond Racing wheels, I'm asking $150 for all 4 with long dead 215-50-13 r-tires on them.

I like widened steelies.

Here are 13x5.5" wheels. Fit great.

I've had them widened anywhere from 5.5 - 7". They are great. Huge fan.

Now that you're throwin' around MY kind of big numbers -- 5.5" -- you've really got my interest, Ryan!

Will these rims fit the stock full wheel covers?  If so, how do they look:  like extra-cool tii rims, or just dorky with the wheel covers?

Thanks and best regards,

Steve

I'm with you. 5.5 was my magic number (especially out front).

I would guess that they work, but I haven't tried it. I have a spare set of 5.5" widened steelies in the garage, but no stock cap to check. I'll get right on that.

The 7" wheels I did for Stephen and Brandon at Blunttech, fit the rears, but will require some work to clear the front stock fenders. At that point, I'd probably go with a 6" front rim. Or heck, 6" all the way around. Brandon's car is something of a monster, so he can use the extra width.

Bad photo, but the wheel does not stick out past the fender lip. No interference anywhere, for that matter (stock rear drums). I wasn't able to mount the fronts because I have the vented rotor upgrade on the Malaga tii.

Ryan, Love the look. That green car is amazing. As a newbie I am interested in learning more about widening steel wheels. Are you doing this yourself in a shop or having them done for you by someone else ?
