Replacement Rocker Panels

2002#3

Recommended Posts

Friends,

I need both L and R new rocker panels for my '74 tii.  I could not find them at BluntTech or Rogerstii.  The only source (other than dealers) I could find is Bavauto (OEM parts 41 35 6 440 140 [L] and --141 [R]) (see attached photos from seller's site).  $112.00 each.

1.  Did I miss them at BluntTech and Rogerstii?

2.  Some sites mention "Rocker Panel Covers"?  Is there a separate cover?  Is this the same as or in addition to rocker panels?

3.  Do you think the Bavauto rocker panels in the photos have (1) jack points and (2) the holes for the trim clips?  I cannot tell.

Thank you for the help and advice.

Larry

Bavauto prices are same as BMW retail.  They look like OEM.  You can do better on price - try online BMW parts sellers like getBMWparts.com ($90 currently), or email Blunt.  Watch shipping costs for big parts like these.

The OEM rockers have the front jacking point and holes for trim clips.  The rear jack point is part of the rear quarter panel.  If you have rust in the rear part of your rocker panels, you will probably also need the quarter panel patch panel, available from WallothNesch, for instance.

BTDT (been there, done that)

You will probably want to do a lower front quarter patch while you are in there.  They ship the stuff straight from Germany.  Shipping is not near as bad as you might think and it get to your door quick.

For the lower quarter panel patches, you'll want to get it from them Wallothnesch... I bought mine from Restoration Design but they ARE the Wallothnesch parts, so just buy from the source and save some dough.

good luck

picked up what i thought was a sound Verona Red '76

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
