Run groups are out.  Going to be an incredible number of BMW's at this event, I counted (11) 2oo2's between run groups 4A, 4B and 3B, add to that (15) or so CSL's, four M1's, a couple of 32o's + a smattering of 18ooTi's, and bmw powered Chevron B16's.  Some really fast (other cars) in those run groups including Canepa's Porsche 917k.  Should be really fun to watch.....that is all I will be doing.  My car won't even be running then.  Very sad.  Totally fouled this one up.  Still looking forward to the event(s)

Sure, it's a bummer, but stuff happens.  The important thing is that you're progressing through every detail on one of the most amazing builds and that's what counts...you're doing it right!

Thanks.  You are right.  In some ways of being so short of the bar has taken some pressure off.  Had I boned out the money for the Quail event I would have really been bummed, I would not have been able to take the car there.

The car will be at Legends (in whatever state it is in) and I am really stoked about that, smartly I withdrew my application for the Races as well as Quail.

Currently body is getting finished up - color next week?

And....

New Brake Rotors Fabricated (Porterfield, Costa Mesa, CA)

Calipers rebuild/restore (PMB Performance, Sandy, Utah)

Custom Motorsport "style" Radiator (Brassworks, Paso Robles, CA)

Rack * Pinion Drop Steering Knuckles (SMR Components, Mundelein, IL)

Enigne - 8 flywheel bolts away from Dyno run (Bob Wirth, Hayward, CA)

I got sh^t all over the place, and a frightening number of checks to write for a s-load of money.  You can't take it with you as they say (and I won't be at this rate).

You aren't the only one who's stoked about your car going to Legends!  I'll be there in my Boxy '02 as well (first timer).  Looking forward to it!

Look forward to meeting you and seeing YOUR car.  I had a really great time at that event last year, I would guess this year will be pretty incredible.

On the bright side, it is fun seeing stuff coming out of boxes and containers and then being assembled (and ultimately into the car) and then of course it is pretty fun having parts and pieces continuously being delivered - early Christmas.

Cheers.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
