Looking for picture of original '72-3 Tii battery hold down

Does anybody know of or have handy a picture of an original '71 '72 '73 2002tii battery hold down?

Many moons ago my Dad removed the original battery hold down to use an aftermarket one because the original one wouldn't fit with the available batteries of the time (26R). My dad and I are putting his car back together he and I are scouring his garage for the original hold down and have found a few, but can't tell/remember which one is the original from his tii.

TIA

Hi, Tom,

This is a BMW NOS hold-down, of un-certain vintage (no orange label on the package so not REALLY old).  It works well, holds my "end-ledge-equipped" battery in place (Exide Classic 26RC).  But I can't vouch it is identical to the car's original hold-down in all respects!

Regards,

Steve

Huh?  Both Steve's and Mac's hold-down look different than mine.  Their plate has angles, whereas mine is rectangular, and it has multiple contours to fit over the battery lip and to wedge against the edge of the tray.  My car was 17yo when I got it, but I'm pretty sure this is the original piece that came with the car.

Yup, this is the one.
Granted, I don't know enough about US specific differences on the 02's, but at least in Europe this was all that held the battery in place.

I bought one from Steve many years ago, and it looks like the one in the pic above.

I recall reading somewhere on FAQ that the original ones were different in the way that Paul describes.  That what you can buy now is not exactly the original shape.  Don't know if that is correct or not.

In my opinion, that "factory" hold down is just for looks.  If you are planning on doing any spirited driving (autocross, PDX, twisty mountain running) and still have the factory battery location I'd suggest making up something that will actually hold the battery in place.

Yes, if tracking the car or expecting the battery to still be where it's supposed to be after a rollover accident, sure, the factory hold down isn't the best, but I'm not going for ultimate safe track car here. ;)

I know the stick is close, but the original holders looked different than what was sold from the mid '80s forward. I think I'm looking for something like the late '02/E21 holder but without the cut/angled side. I do know the height of the stick is different than the '02 ones.

Ohhhh dear me!!!
A uhmmm... I can barely speak the name...  'Mercedes-Benz' battery in a 02??
Shame on you Tom!!  Getting the battery holder 100% correct is surely second priority compared to that awfully modern battery you have in there now - especially with *THAT* text on it!
Please Tom, ensure you get that horrid thing swapped for a period looking black battery asap!

It'so very very difficult to find a properly fitting battery for a Tii in the US.... long story, but that Mercedes battery is easily available to me.

The stickers will be converted to the Bavarian type... But I kinda like the white battery, looks like a BMW one. ;)

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
