Black, painted-metal front seat hinges lean toward a 1973 model, but not definitively.  The fatter headrest supports and shaped headrest style, however, are definitely well into the 1973 model year, assuming the front seats are original.  The front bumper has neither rub strips nor provisions for rub strips on the end pieces, so I would suspect the entire front bumper has been exchanged for a pre-April '71 bumper.  Miserable paint job, in some vaguely Verona-meets-Inka color.  But, of course, the rust situation will tell whether it was over or under-priced!

Regards,

Steve

As it was in Dallas, it may turn up soon at Select Classics?

Shame on you, Les, for lighting a match in a gas-filled house!

Seriously, probably a January 1973 car, or thereabouts.

No personal knowledge about this car, other than what is observable from the ad.  In addition to Mike's observation re the early front bumper, can't help but notice the sheet metal snorkel, which must make up for the missing forward air cleaner snorkel?    Upper firewall lip has the appropriate cutout and one guesses it is a rare air-cooled model, considering the apparent lack of a radiator.  Also spy something ribbed near the windshield washer reservoir.  Could it be a DeltaMark10B or similar?   Seats have more tread and air pressure than the tires, and the strut mount nuts are clearly painted - but who is counting?   Besides that is what is probably meant by "enhanced" in the vehicle description.

The missing air cleaner snorkel is partially made up by the nose snorkel.  No radiator, horrible A/c conversion, super deep front spacers and the lack of even cleaning up anything scares me. What are folks thinking?  Is it so hard to turn on a hose?

The BMW 2002 tii US VIN 2763346 was manufactured on January 29th, 1973 and delivered on February 16th, 1973 to the BMW importer Hoffman Motors Corp. in New York City. The original colour was Inka, paint code 022.

I failed to mention that this car was auctioned as a wrecked car by a salvage company in Dallas.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
