BMW 2002 Hommage - Video

Interesting.  To me, surprisingly, the front end design works. And the attempt to reference the belt-line trim.  The rear, everything past the B-pillar, not so much -  the weird angles and all have no resemblance, or invoke any 02 feelings...  Obviously they were limited to modifying an existing modern design (1 or 2 series), which is hard to make look 60-70s.

Wow... I usually like the homage cars, but that thing is just... No words really!!!

It's like the 1 series M Coupe and the new M2 spent too much time together and 9 months later...

I agree that if I were to see this without knowing I'd never guess what it was... there is not even a hint of the car they are supposedly paying homage too...

Wow I like that CSL concept.

I agree with what others have said, it shares more with an i3 than a 2002. That front air dam with turbo reading up is cool, but (looking straight at the front) the mass of the car behind the front buttresses looks i3. From the rear 3/4 I think it does a pretty good job of carrying an 02 shape. A bit more roof in the back and a hofmeister kink would have pulled it together. The beltline trim is a nice touch but I don't like the cutouts near the door. The 2002 mojo in a less-is-more I series car with lightweight batteries would be appealing to me. Just need some Tii batteries.

I think the idea was to create something with a similar design philosophy rather than a retro 2002.

Bolt-on flares, massive airdam, turbo livery and a spoiler. All they should do now is make it stupid fast and sell 1000 of them.

I like it, it's not subtle, and not elegant by any means, but then neither is the 2002 turbo.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
