OEM Headliner Material from BMW Dealer

I've read many posts on this topic and even then, I couldn't determine whether the fabric was going to arrive pre-sewn or just as the material - neither could the guy behind the counter.  There are several references to batches of bad seams on oem headliners.  So, I thought maybe, just maybe, it would come pre-sewn.

For those of you wondering - it doesn't.  It comes as material only.  I'm curious as to the references to "oem" headliner kits or "oem" headliners with welded seams and so forth.  I know there are several suppliers of aftermarket headliners - could these reference simply be referring to those?

Don't understand your comment.  BMW headliners come precut to shape and fabricated with pockets and rear pillar extensions molded in (which one would call "sewn").  There are two parts numbers differentiating between sunroof and non-sunfoof vehicles (number of support rods/pockets differ).  To cover the sunroof one must specify an extra yard of vinyl material.  I used 51.44.1.804.085 and 51.95.1.817.302 (material) for a sunroof car.  BTW, my only problem was the headliner fitting the lower end of the C pillar and corner of the rear window..

Ah Ha!  That's what I thought. Mine are also 51.44.1.804.085 (main roof material) and 51.95.1.817.302 (sun roof panel material).  They are most definitely not precut or shaped into any sort of pattern.

I'm wondering if things have changed.  How long ago was your purchase?

My wife and I can sew it up and make it work no problem.  I was just curious about this anomaly.  There is a 55.44.7.480.140 in the diagram.  If one drills down on either one, they both say "Cover material, running meter".

I bought mine a couple of years ago.  It might be entirely possible that your 804.805 liner is the incorrect part.  I can vouch that the current sunroof pattern is not cut correctly.  This is an item that would be extremely difficult to sew yourself.

I am wrong. I have the invoice at work and the material at home. When I got home I looked at the part number and it's the (.302 sunroof ) part.

I apologize for my carelessness. I rely on these posts for most of my research. So I hope others don't just read my first post and stop there.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
