It's from select classics. Seems like a good guy and car, but just wait a few min and you'll hear the whining about select classics.

Haha...

You are so right!

Full disclosure.. I was going to say "$15K for a non runner/car that hasn't been started, sounds about right for them"

But now I am not going to say it ;-)

No rust, but there is rust where it was repaired. Huh?

Needs minor things in addition to engine. Again, whut??

Nice dash? Really? Is that gaping crevice a factory option?

If a price of $15K was listed, it is no longer. Still, this car looks as good as the in-op Agave tii that sold recently in Mass -- long thread here complete with odd, un-gentlemanly jeers from the the seller's agent -- for $15K-ish.

Yes, the Agave paint sticker appears venerable and miserably-abused. I wouldn't be shocked, however, if there's been an exterior or interior color change. Why? The underhood Agave looks likes it might be covering a lighter color, or it's just a really bad paint job -- which is also likely. And Agave ordinarily came with a saddle interior (and tobacco prior to saddle). Black interiors, in this car's era, generally arrived in Golf, Colorado, Inka, Verona, Ceylon, and Taiga cars (with its additional likelihood in Riviera, Atlantic, Schwarz, Baikal, and Turkis U.S. cars, the cars that generally received gray or gray/black mix interiors in the Euro market). So I suspect either the exterior or interior color has been changed. Heck, that beautiful backseat backrest looks too good for this car's engine compartment!

Aluminum intake runners are certainly possible in a later 1972 model, but it's an unusual combination with the notch-free firewall. I'd certainly be looking at the engine number and the head and intake manifold/injection pump dates to see what is and what might be original to the car.

Overall, however, $15K is no longer a crazy price for a rough-ish, even in-op '72 tii -- disclosing, of course, that the author of that statement owns a rough-ish '73 tii!

If I were in the market, I'd give this car a closer look -- and I'd request a report from BMW Archives (info.grouparchiv@bmwgroup.com) to verify its manufacturing date and factory color.

Regards,

Steve

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
