Somewhat related, I've wondered if the e24 front seats fit in an 02 too? There's a nice set of front and rears for sale locally.

Here is a link i saw here on E24 fronts installed in an 02 looks nice btw

I did a similar trim on mine but then removed them to go racing , they will be going back in for my new build , the reincarnation I'm taking to Kona Hawaii . They fit , look & feel awesome. Mine cost $15 at the old Ecology before LKQ took over & hiked all the prices .

I would highly advise NOT taking a 2002 to Hawaii, I took a 100% restored 78' Land Cruiser FJ-40 to Oahu, 5 years later it had to be scrapped due to salt air rust.

It was shocking how fast 70's steel disintegrated, while our modern car showed no signs of wear.

I don't take myself or opinions Seriously

Thanks for the word of warning , I'm going to prep it before it's painted & done , it's going , I just need to protect it. Also our house is 800 ft up the hill & we get a down draft, I've been told to clean/wash before putting it away & I'm getting 2 bubbles to park my 02 & my 1932 Ford roadster in .

The center console is part of the e24 seats. It needs to be cut on the top and a custom parcel shelf needs to be fabricated, it is relatively simple but takes some time to get right.

Any chance you could share photos of how/where you cut the middle console? Cheers

Unfortunately I dont have good pics of the console top part cut, but I do have these.  The one with the beige parcel shelf is the original one and you can see how much I cut to fit the new parcel shelf on the next picture.  I separated the leather from the fiberglass before cutting so that I could use it to tuck under the console part where it meets the parcel shelf.

I hope this helps.

Thank you this is great. Is that e24 console? Mine has seatbelt lockers embedded.

Most of the ones I've seen have the cutouts for the seat belts, mine did not.  Not sure why, may be a year thing on the E24.

^ the center console looks like mine that came from an E9. I recemtly acquired rear E24 seats without the center console. I posted a wtb and no one responded except for someone who had those E9 consoles so i took it.

Here is mine when test mounted after shaving the rear backing. Havent had the time to dye and bolt them on rear parcel

Just to post some pictures for those who are interested. By following the original posters cut-outs I get this result. I have both E24 seats + E24 center console. No cut-outs were done to the center console for this result.

I am hesitant to cut more, as some other people have, simply to try to "hook" the seats to the original hook.. As of now I plan to make a homemade hook that will sit between the seats and the rear frame. The seats are very comfortable to sit in in their current position/angle and do not move or feel loose.

Unless anyone who has cut out more of their seats can give me similar feedback with their setup, then I think this is the way to go !

I did cut more on the seats and hooked them as well as trimmed the console. Your setup looks right as well but farther away from the car frame so I would guess more upright. If you feel that they are comfortable that way then keep them like that, you just need to build a bigger parcel shelf.

Working on my install and after trimming the backs and hair, I still have a gap - 1-2 inches at the top between the back of the seat and the parcel shelf. I can flex the seat to hook it on the prior bench seat hook, but it seems to stress the seat frame to use that hook.  Did you use those hooks for the back or fabricate others to hang on them to the back of the seat? Thanks - Rum

Hi All,

I'm the original poster on this subject.   What I did on the seat belts was,   I left the e24 female ends as is and removed the male ends from the E24 retractors and had them professionally sewn onto the 2002 retractors.I then mounted the retractors into the cavity behind the rear cards.   Worked great with  little fab work.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
