Steam cleaning finally!!!

I still wonder about the purported mileage...if it was 180k and not the supposed 80k, would the underside look like this even for a CA car? Front and rear sub frames still have glossy paint and all the cadmium plated parts are still shiny, virtually no corrosion anywhere-what a trip. Outside of the crappy repair to the right rear, resulting partial repaint and badge relocation, it's very original and dry...

Next week IE SS exhaust!

Excellent!

What is the name of the place or guy who provides this service in your neighborhood? I have a guy down here who steam cleans the undercarriage, but I've only heard of a guy in the bay area.

Many things beforehand.

Thanks-It's simply San Jose Steam Cleaning and believe it or not, they've been in business since 1927! They're right off The Alameda (El Camino Real) just on the other side of the tracks from "The Shark Tank". I couldn't believe how dry the underside was after they were done. I'm going to detail the wheel wells this wknd.

That's so great. Thanks for the info! I'll find a reason to take a car to them, even if they are 330 miles away from me.

Keep up the good work. I love a clean undercarriage. I have all my cars cleaned before I dig into them.

Of course! So you're telling me that there's nothing/no one in SoCal outside of the guy that you use??? Or are you on the Central Coast now?

Nice! What was the price?

$300. Not cheap, but they also did the engine bay, which I had hand cleaned to the best of my ability. I'll post pics of the engine bay soon, after I polish and wax the paint and do a few other things.

Did they also do the inner fenders and the wheels for $300?

My guy down here charges $225 and he'll do everything you listed, including inner fenders. It's nice to compare.

Yup. As I'm sure you know, the Bay Area is frickin' expensive in every conceivable way.

Been workin' on reviving the extremely oxidized and tired finish back to a presentable state until I can afford paint and bodywork. Spent 7 hrs yesterday, God knows how many more over the last couple of months when I've had  a bit of time here and there. Still much to do, and the paint is f'd but now at least it looks like a car...

Today or tomorrow I tackle the trunk and pass. door. The hood is absolutely fried, so not sure if anything can be done.

Much clay barring, various compounds/cutters, Meguiar's #7 glaze and their yellow carnauba wax:

Looking good. I like when owners bring back (as much as they can) the shine on a well patina'd car. Looks like a taken care of time capsule.

Thank you so much-that's the current intention. When I first looked at the car I realized how solid, dry and original it was under all the grime and oxidization that it had accumulated from sitting for 20-odd yrs. Still a lot to do, but things are coming back decently and it does drive well.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
