1976 CA Car - Worth it or gutless?

Congrats. Looks like a great purchase. Now all you have to do is follow previous advise and make your physical address one in a non-test county and your mailing address your current home or office and you will get renewals and tags in the mail. Easiest way to do it is on the DMV website, no questions asked and no time wasted.

Enjoy!

Thanks everybody! I am curious as to the order of operations. I sign the pink-slip over, then go to the DMV for a change of ownership and to show smog. At that point I can also fill out some paperwork to change the car to Sonoma County - where it will be parked - but retain my SF mailing address. Will I need to also change my Driver's License residential address?

You're in! Great grab I live in Siskyou county which is on the Oregon border we have no biannual so if you do have a 76 pass smog get it registered. Use a friends address you're good. Lots of county's in California are like this. Personally I registered my 11/75 build date 76 as a 75. The gent at the DMV had one as a teenager. He loved my car. Being in the Bay Area the first mod I would think about is a third brake light. I think you made a good purchase and in just a few years you will double your money if you decide to sell it.

If you are using a non smog county make sure to change address on insurance as DMV and Insurance companies are linked

Some Counties are smog exempt in certain areas of the County. Sonoma may have such areas, I don't know. Lake County is fully exempt. Remember, it's all about the zip code. You're just changing residency of the vehicle so your driver's license is unaffected. Just make sure you keep your present mailing address intact for this particular vehicle so you're not tardy on your registration.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
