....Long as there's no rust....

Wait. I'm assuming that's tongue-in-cheek! What are the odds that a 48-year-old Wisconsin '02 with a long patch on its right rear shock tower has NO rust?

Good luck,

Steve

"Most of the car is clean other than the drivers side frame rail and floor board... Floor board has a hole through it just in front of the drivers seat, and the frame rail rotted out from the brake fluid running down into it and sitting.... It's not like it's going to fall apart but there's a few spots where's it's rusted through... "

Hello all, I'm new here, and have been looking to for an 02 for awhile now. I'm in madison wi, and checked this one out over the weekend. I was very excited to find the car fairly close to me and brought a trailer just in case. Unfortunately the car had a lot of rust. Frame rails and driver side pan as mentioned, as well as bubbles in the drivers side door. The passage side front wheel well was rotten, the hood had large chunks of bond falling off in the engine compartment. Also, rust had found its way into some of the seams underneath the rockers- very "spongy". Though it probably wouldn't take much to get the engine to start, it would not come to life for me, and we were giving it some help with starter fluid. Might be a good project for someone, I just could not justify the extra $$ in fixing the rust. without the numbers matching block, the headaches involved with the early breaks and diff did not make sense. I hope the guy sells it to someone who will take the time to get it back on the road. Definitely not a $4500 car.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
