It is an Ireland air dam.  I bought the car with it over 12 years ago.

I just talked to Jack.  The car is almost complete.  Just a few minor adjustments.  I should get it back by the weekend.

I'll post pictures of the finished product.

The awesomeness of 2002s is how we can customize them to our liking.  Most of my ideas came from others too, each idea from a different car.

Some I tried on my own on another 2002 and liked the outcome and applied it to this one.  Some ideas I tried did not come out so nice.  So I ditched them.

Being a non-purist, I don't have the overwhelming urge to keep it stock, even for a tii.  Value be damned since I have no intentions of selling it.

The car done. Pick up date is Saturday.

Henry is home.  And it started to rain.  But I was able to snap a couple of pictures.

Next:  Carpet, center console, sound system.

The car drove surprisingly well on the 40 mile trip home considering it's been pretty much parked since 2008.

Once I got the gig that paid the bills, I no longer have the time to tinker in the garage. But I'm committed for 2016. I need to make serious progress on the car and I've made some investment in parts to help my motivation. It'll be 9 years since my dad passed, and since we stopped work on the car together. I need to move forward on this car - his car - and make some headway. I would like to drive it again one of these decades!

Congrats, OP on your project finally coming together. It's incredible how quickly time passes with these things.

I'm using this car as a template. I just came back to it to see whether or not you had 'filled in' your rear side blinkers and I see that you had. I personally like the no trim look, and am headed in the same direction. I'm still on the fence as to whether to paint the waist trim stripe or vinyl it. I'm going to go back to Polaris, but am going to see if they can put more metallic fleck in it to spruce it up.

Nice job Pierre.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
