Shift pattern transfers

Mo, Stan,

Just so you know: I would test the stencil/paint process BEFORE doing the job.  I have a dead dash that I'd apply the process to.  I need to be confident before I start mucking with my perfect 72 dash.

So, I will need some extra stencil pieces for the test.  Keep that in mind when you are 'ganging up' the artwork for production. Or if you plan to create individual stencils, I, personally, would need a couple of extra pieces.

Steve,

Thanks for your interest and update, I will be working on the decals/stencils this week and should have a concrete update early next week (hopefully).

In addition to the dash stencils, I will try and make BEHR AC stencils as they appear to be the same on both e9 coupes and 2002's.  If someone could please post a pic to confirm & or dimensions I would appreciate that.

I plan on making a low production of each, but I hope they will prove to be invaluable to those that are in interested.

Paul,

I really believe if someone has the skill & patience to work with the stencils, they would turn out better than one could image.  That being said, the amount of work to apply a stencil is considerably more than a decal (the end result is also much more durable)

This is getting a bit confusing sorting out who wants what in terms of stencil vs decal, but I will work hard to get them made and we can sort out the rest after that.

FYI I have reached out to Stan and hope he will get back to me, we will probably be offering different decals at the same time on this board and I hope the members will not get confused/be patient with our process.  After all we really want this to turn out good and are trying to do this to add value + substance to our/your cars.

I will post updates as they become available, in the meantime continue to post your questions/requests here.

Thank you to all,

-Mo

Mo / Stan,

You gentlemen certainly have my patience because I would much rather have you two dedicated, perfectionist BMW guys working on this project than:

1.) some non-BMW guys, or

2.) me!

(I'm also a user of Stan's pop-up wind deflector parts -- just perfect!)

I'd prefer whichever lettering method appears closer to the original, and I'm guessing that's the stenciling. Since my '73 is very close to Paul W.'s car in VIN -- mine is just much more needy -- I'd probably just +1 anything Paul says on this subject!

Thanks and regards,

Steve

Hi guys,

Stan has placed up an ad in the classifieds section:

I would appreciate it if you can get back to him & he can in-turn get back to me.

I will place a pic (sorry....blurry) of the shift patterns ( 5 speed OD available but not shown )

Once I get the green light from Stan, it will be 7-10 days to make them, then shipping from him to you.

I will be placing separate ads/ posts for my other decals (ie. dash lettering and BEHR AC)

Thanks,

Mo Faraz

It sure is difficult to post pictures on this site. You can't easily upload them or even just drag and drop.

Here are the photos from the Behr AC console. First pictures were taken square. Measurements reflect the actual size of item being measured even if it looks like the measurement is not aligned.

Thank you gastephens, that is very helpful.

I am actually working on them now and have noticed the 2002 states 'cold' vs e9 states 'colder' ...everything else is identical and should turn out just like factory text + size.

A pretty neat accomplishment considering some decals use just generic lettering....

Thanks again, I should be done with everything by weeks end, the rest depends on the process.

It's not too difficult.  Just takes some getting used to.  Maybe someone can post a tutorial.   I could in future, but no time right now.

If only someone would ;-)

Update:

For all those that have expressed interest & have paid, a big thank you from me and I am sure Stan as well.  We are working out the final details to get them made by the beginning of next week (fingers crossed) they should be ready about one-week later.

I am taking extra time to scrutinize any size/font issues to ensure as close to accurate decals as possible.

Two notes: if you plan on overlaying a decal or stencil over a existing text, please understand that it is almost impossible to get a 100% match, but it will be close (just an FYI).  If you have a blank (virgin) dash then everything should be fine.

I am also planning on experimenting with a few retro styles found on the BMW 501-507 cars + isetta, they will be made in a very limited numbers & will have a circle around each gear.  Not OE, but certainly will add class to your car as this style was even used on early Mercedes manual transmissions. (see below)

Mo,

I am interested in the dash stencil set for an early 72, a 4 speed stencil, and a 5-speed stencil.

Here is a pic from my car (2761485, built on April 25 1972) showing that the lower left dash knob is for a fan rather than fog light.

Thanks!

Hi Vince,

Thanks for the pic, the dash lettering stencils will be ready at the same time as shift patterns.  The universal kit will include 6 decals: ( I will also post a short installation guide)

1) Lights (all)

2) Lighter (all)

3) Wiper Speed (all)

4) Fan (early roundie)

5) Defrost (late roundie)

6) Front Foglamps (square light)

These will look crisp and clean when applied properly and should really give your interior a meaningful upgrade.

Thanks,

Mo Faraz
