Was your car at the OFest concours in Monterrey a few years ago?

I no longer have 194, and yes it had a bent lever. A good friend is restoring 159 (I think that is the vin) the car that ran at Sebring in 66 and rolled. I have the engine and gearbox and it too has a bent lever.

Really?!? I totally thought it was the same combo, except that one has cloth instead of vinyl.

I think it has to do with the lighting inside the museum. There are pics of it outside in J Waltons book, Ultimate Drives and it is very blue! Also not a color I ever remember seeing.

Unless there are two!

Thanks Art. Yes that was my car. It took "Best in Show" at Legends in 2013, then only managed a 3rd place at O'Fest in the Original class? 2 of the judges for our class admitted they had never seen a TiSA before they saw mine.

Interesting regarding shift lever. We bent a shift lever and will be putting it on the car. It seems some of the cars imported into the US by Max Hoffman didn't have the bent shifters. Go figure.

Steve,

I thought that was the car. I judged the under carriage. We talked.

I was in the same situation with my turbo in Monterrey in 1985. Way too subjective! I was second. That was the last time I entered a concour competition. My wife says I'm way easier to live with!

I think the stick bend simply shortens the distance to 4th and 5th. Did you go back to the TiSA 5spd? The later cr boxes in 02's had a bent stick as well. Will probably get hammered for that comment, but I have a few of them to back my claim!

Your car is absolutely beautiful.

I have never seen a BMW 1800 TISA with a bent shift lever. I have seen about 10 TISAs total dating from 1965 to now. This doesn't mean that a few didn't slip through with bent shifters, but I have never seen one. Here are some BMW 1800 TISA pictures for the collection. Also a photo of my first BMW, a plain red 1800, which received TiLux  running gear and twin 40mm webers, the beginning of my chronic illness. And of course- a picture of Dad- Stanley Burroughs Stillwell- circa 1972.   I put his face into the  Duryea Hillclimb poster a few years back to honor him.

Also a Tisa parked at the Giant's Despair Hillclimb, same  era.

sincerely, Peter

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
