m10 bottom end

I know the bottom end of the M10 is pretty beefy...but anyone know what rpm I can set the limit at with the stock bottom end? (with enough of a margin so that I won't have to grind my teeth with nervous anxiety as to whether a rod is gonna have a look-see through the block)

I think you will find that after 7000 rpm... you will encounter

problems. The stock rods are not held on with beefy hardware

nore is 40 something ftlbs of torque on the rod nuts gonna keep

the rod cap on for much longer. My aftermarket high rpm rods

torque to 70ftlbs. Stock pistons and pins weigh a ton. Actually

about 120grams for pins about 550grams for the piston. (note

these are "close numbers" from the last time I measured.. my

momory is fuzzy) I saved over a kilogram with my mahle alpina

hemi pistons. That's alot when your swinging weight around

233.3 directional changes a second.

Mahle pistons usually have a P/N like

89p15 where 89 is the diameter and p15 is the style (incidentally that is the number for an A4 piston)

89p18 These have smaller pins in length not dia that weigh like

less than half of stock... also the pin is placed high in the piston

for use on a alpina long rod setup and has tiny rings 1mm high

tension compressions on both and a 2.5mm oil ring.... probably

why they arn't stock a4 :)
