I put together this little gif showing the visible differences between my 76 2002 and my 72 touring.

It helps show the different windows, windshield rake, roofline, bumper, etc...

P.S. You have to click on the photo to see it change.

You can make the GIF perfect if you line up the wheels in Photoshop (set the top one at 50% opacity, align and crop).

I just got a 73' touring with e21 engine. It's a project to say the least. Pics will follow in a few months when it's done ;).

Welcome to the club! Prepare to be asked, "what is that?" every time you drive it!

If you look at the noses of the cars they are lined up, as is the belt line trim. They don't match up perfectly because the blue car is lowered and the touring is stock. Also, I shot them at different distances, so the lens distortion after cropping changes it a little too.

1974 tii Touring on Ebay, although the car is in the Netherlands.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/391351456844?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Stated as top condition and fully restored. I guess carpeting wasn't part of the resto. Has the wrong (early) door and rear side panels.

Why would someone polish up the hood latch bar and not replace worn out carpets (particularly the rear/trunk sections)?

On the face of it a good restoration and a nice car, but would have been nice to get some pics underneath and I'd like some proof that any rot had been cut out and not covered over. Les - I personally value original carpets in this condition more than replacements. They don't photograph well, but I bet they look better in reality. Really should find time to get my polaris tii touring back on the road - I miss having a hatchback 02.

I would be very wary of how this one was restored. They even put back on the old trunk seal and there's what looks like a huge gap between the left wing and inner wing.

My rear carpeting looked better than this one's, but it being replaced. I wonder if they removed the carpet over the rear shock towers; it's amazing what you can find under there.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
