shifter quagmire... need help!!

okay, i pulled everything out of the tunnel and discovered that yes, the shortened 320i mount is flat busted. it tore out one of the bolt holes due to the tranny being jacked too high in the rear. that is a seperate problem which i already have a solution for.

so what i want to do is shorten my old '02 mount and use the shifter itself because it is much longer below the pivot ball, thus being its own short-shift kit. the problem is that the base connector thing that actually connects to the shift rod is not the same as the 320i linkage. it looks like an eye with a short rod that goes through the center, then this rod being what connects to the selector coming out of the tranny via another linkage connection. the short rod forms an upside-down T at the base of the shifter. then the intermediate lingage piece (which I happen to be MISSING!!!!!) grabs the "horns" of the T and then connects up to the tranny part. ANYBODY GOT A SPARE ONE OF THESE CONNECTOR BITS??

The other option is to use the e21 bits in the 02 "eye"... but the I.D. of the "eye" (im thinking "eye" like "eye-bolt".. perhaps "donut" is a better analogy) is too big to fit the e21 "rod" which connects like an "L" into the hole in the donut. I was thinking of filling the hole with JB weld and putting a thin coat of axle grease on the "L", thus bushing up the inside of the donut and making everything fit nice and tight. Any thoughts? sorry about the 1000 words but my camera is somewhere in kansas or oklahoma at the moment!

I have one, but it is still in the car attached to the rear of the transmission. I am doing a five speed conversion and have the driveshaft out, so it would only take a few minutes to get it out of the car if you cannot find another one.

Also, do you still have the little set screw that screws into the "eye" of the shift lever? You will need that.

I have access to cutting and welding equipment, so I plan on making my own frankenstein shifter (use old shifter parts and cut and weld to make the lenghts what I want them, using 320i shifter).

I can't really understand what you're talking about, but if I do in

the slightest, how about grafting on an 02 part to the eye and

using your welder? You have access to a welder right? Or how

about welding or brazing a sleeved bushing into the "eye of the

donut"?

...some of those ideas won't work like the 320 shifter/linkage

into the old platform-if that's what you were saying. Skip the

JB weld idea too. I have the stuff you need.
