emergency brake light stays on

When I bought my 74tii back in august, the emergency brake was so loose that it wouldn't hold the car on any real hill. The other day I tightened the nuts on the handle, and about a day later the brake light on the dash stayed on. I've sinced loosened the nuts a good deal but the light stays on. Any suggestions?

Pull the cover off and see how its working, or not working.

check and reset the pressure differential switch on the brake manifold (if you have one) below the master cylinder.
