Never heard of the KFC Yum center. Lots of greasy slides... or some fingernails?

Yep, YUM! brands HQ is in Louisville and they do a lot of sponsorship in the area. The arena is third largest College basketball arena in the country and is a great place to watch a game or concert. Despite some contreversial contracts between the city & UofL It has been a great addition to downtown Louisville.

I still wish they'd have called it the KFC Bucket, but no one listens to me.

The Vintage was an incredible event this year. 550 Vintage BMW's, (Mostly) beautiful weather, and a great group of people. Because I'm a goober I didn't take many photos, so if you have any of this car, please post them up in a comment to this thread. All that being said, here's a few shots:
The Louisville Contingent at the first rally point to wait for the rest of the caravan. We had 14 cars in caravan this year.

At Hot Springs, parked in the RGB tent city next to @thehackmechanic 's Louie Agave. The cars were very happy to see eachother again. 66 sporting it's custom fitted fender apron in preparation to have generator belt tightened.

The car did exceptionally well on the trip. Had an intermittent ignition switch problem on the way home that grew into full failure on the way home. Luckily I've got a spare on the column i pulled from that parts 67. Now I've just got to find some time to pull and replace.

@MoBrighta's whiz-bang 6v->12v step up box to run a 12v high output brake light bulb + R&R's tail light buckets came in the mail while I was gone too. I was hoping to have it installed this week, but this install is still pending.

It has been an exceptionally long time since I've posted on this thread. I've been having a lot of fun with the 66, but have also been distracted with some other cars - from the jeep's continued woes, to a trip to California to bring home a 1967 Mercedes 250SE, to my wife's purchase of a 2000 SL 500 (what is up with all the three pointed star stuff amirite?)

I decided not to take the 66 to vintage for its third year, but we did make the trip to the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. What an incredible event - despite the brutal heat and sun, i had the most amazing time and i can't wait for next year. The 66 did great and it was really nice to take another road trip in this car, especially because it may be my last.

I've done a lot of thinking about my 'fleet' and have decided its time to let this car go to its next caretaker. I've accomplished pretty much everything I've wanted with this car and its time to do the same for some other 02's. Its been a really difficult decision, and one I'm afraid I may regret, but is the right thing to do.

If you or anyone you know is looking for a very unique 1600-2, send them my way.

Now, on to some photos. I'll only post a few here, but there are a lot more from the weekend out on instagram @petrolandpizza

Hi DasFogger, if you would like me to drive the 250 SE from CA to you, I can, I pay gas and I can stop by outside of Phoenix for any parts you may desire, … I drove a '58 220S from LA to Houston and picked up parts in Phoenix for the owner 1 being a side vent window that was a hard to find part and other stuff,  dropped it off at Helmut Holder Motors (now passed on)  I have relatives I am over due to visit and driving  to Texas vs flying gives me the time to acclimate back into a Texas, flying in is too big of shock, I have relatives outside of Lafayette, LA …in  Broussard, Louisiana   then onward to Hot Springs Arkansas for a few more relatives and that would put me pretty close to you , I did have relatives in Kentucky but 5 years ago the last of them passed away … always wanted to drive thru Kentucky, if that does not work at least stop by for some strong coffee and dip in the pool … to chill when in LA (we love it)… good looking 1600-2 you have … Lucian   ps there is room in this big old town for another 1600-2

Lucian: Thanks for the kind offer! We've got the Mercedes back in Louisville now - i flew out mid march to drive it back home. It was a great trip down HWY 1 and then east out of L.A. It was an incredible time and i can't wait to be back in CA again. If you're ever out this way be sure to drop me a line!

After just over three years of ownership my journey with this car has come to an end. I’ve had a ton of fun and accomplished all the goals I’d set. When I bought the car I knew my role would be to save this very special car from an unfortunate fate, drive the snot out of it, and get it ready for the next caretaker who could take it to the next level. While I’m sad to see it go, I’m glad to have finished what I set out to do. It’s been an unforgettable three years.

Yep - and we're in the process of trying to pare it back down to a managable size. I'd like to simplify and refocus.

I don't ever want to out a buyer publically. We'll have to catch up privately sometime soon jim!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
