Dimmer switch spring location??

When pulling our instrument cluster this weekend, the dimmer switch in our 72 sort of fell apart. Managed to save everything and tried to put it back to functioning order. One small spring (about 1/2 the size of a pinky fingernail) was...and is the source of our trouble. It seems that the spring is needed to keep the headlights on. We sort of got it working, but it lasted a day. Any suggestions on exactly where this spring needs to go to keep the lights on?? thanks for all your help!

when you pull the stalk towards you to flash your hi beams. Theres a little nub on the contact plate for one side of the spring. I forget what the other side of the spring sits on, something on the inside half of the assembly. Glued mine together with gorilla glue.
