looking for a shot of a 74 tii without timing cut

I am having a hard time believing that all of the cuts were made in garages around the world, by guys with different abilities, tools etc. IMHO they are way too uniform (although there is still a lot of difference between them) for them to be from unique cutters.

Can you post a pic of your known to be original 74 tii without the cut to prove my theory wrong.

taking a pic for tman, let's do up this trivia question big time. Collect and post these details for your tii:

1. Width, depth, and left/right offset of your notch, preferably in millimeters.

2. VIN.

3. Manufacture date (on left door sticker).

4. Your opinion of whether the cut was done at the factory, and why.

My report:

1. No notch

2. 2761530

3. 5/72

4. Not factory.

1. 95mm X 12mm sides cut approx 45', 2. 2781946, 3. 5/74, 4. cut at factory, notch extends about 1/32" underneath the piece with the elongated d cut out that covers the heater and is painted the same as car (golf) with no sign of toutch up Marty

Yeah, that's what I've noticed. Is that because the intake plenum is in the way of the timing hole in the bell housing?

I just looked at ten or more engine pics with the exact some cutout, so it has to be factory. The question is, why and when did they start doing it?

The early tii's with plastic runners don't seem to have it.

They started to appear some time in the 73 model year, after the switch to metal runners. I dont know if all 73 have them or not, all 74 seem to have them....Marty

Since he couldn't weld any snorkles on the tii's, he thought he would just hack them up and then the factory would need him to weld in a "repair piece".

Just a theory.

My 72 #2761534 has no cut. My 73 had the cut.
