body and interior Seatbelts locked

Hey y'all

As I was installing my esty carpet kit I began to bolt in my seatbelts and the driver side jammed up on me. I was like "oh no" so I moved on to the passenger side and it happened again. So as of right now I have a pair of locked seatbelts.

Any recommendations on how to unlock the seatbelts?

The reels need to be in the "upright"/neutral position.

I've tried holding them upright and they are still locked. What am I doing wrong?

If I unscrew it and open it up do you think I can free it up? Or will I cause a big fat mess?.

There is a pendulum mechanism that causes the reel to lock.  Usually you'll get a big fat mess when opening the reel.  Reach out to Al (bluedevils here on the forum) - he's the seat belt expert:

Do not attempt to open them up, please. Keep them upright and try to wiggle the reel back and forth at the same time, while pulling the webbing slowly. They should unlock most of the time.  A benchwise will help the process.  Do not manhandle

Hi All   I have this problem occasionally on my rear belts which is a problem because I'm always transporting kids.  Seems with time and driving they come unlocked again.  Is there a trick for the rears?
