Front subframe missing tow eyes...anybody guess why?

I bought what I thought was a clean front sub-frame from a 74' 2002. Today when I was taking a close look at it, tearing it down for my project I noticed that someone chopped off the front tow eyes with a grinder. the holes in the subframe behind them were slightly tweaked, like someone put a hook in the hole and used the holes to tie down the car. Maybe the car was put on a rack? Anybody have a good logical answer to why someone would chop the stock eyes off?

When I took the subframe out for the M20 swap, I reinforced the driver's side motor mount and replaced the tow loops. One of the tow loops had broken completely off and the other was snapped in half. Before I took the subframe out I had always wondered why there was only one off-center tow loop hanging down there. :)

Yours might have rusted out or broken, and the PO probably decided they were ugly and ground them out.

I make new tow loops out of much thicker steel and welded them in well. Then I coated it all with POR15. They'll last another 25 years.

Do you have a picture of the camera? If I had that thing I'd be taking pictures of everything. 8-)

Here's a link to the webpage that describes taking the lens out.

We modified the camera at the lab where I work so we could take infrared pictures of skin tumors. We're trying to make a computer system that can detect and identify melanoma (form of skin cancer, very deadly).

Usually, pictures just come out the wrong color, but that one was just cool.
